A two-month voyage through Australia is being halted following the death of an older woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the woman was missing.

A major rescue mission discovered her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, together with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that guests and staff on the vessel were told that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also released an latest communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from boarding the liner.

The representative said that they would inspect the liner in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The vessel originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

The daughter of the victim said that her loved ones was "stunned and distressed that the ship left the island after an organised outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a bushwalking group.

"According to scant facts we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of attention and common sense," she stated.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have saved Her life".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mother fell ill on the hill climb," she stated.

"She was asked her to go back, unescorted. Then the boat departed, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, she succumbed, alone."

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to aid their examination".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had offered its full support to the relatives.

The vessel accommodates up to a hundred twenty guests with forty-six crew, according to official details. It was purpose-built to reach distant areas of Australia's coast and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to transport travelers on land visits.
